Parte 3 – Documentar su accidente

Después de un accidente laboral, hay que esforzarse por documentar el acontecimiento en profundidad y más allá de los archivos que su empleador debe tener. Diríjase a sus colegas para conseguir informes de los testigos y guarde los registros de las comunicaciones con su empleador. Los testamonios van a complementar los archivos que Ud. recolectó para la 1a Parte de esta guía.

Paso 1 – Acudir a colegas

Tal vez sus colegas vieran el accidente y puedan ofrecer testimonios de lo occurido.. Haga que escriban un informe del accidente para explicar lo que vieron. El informe debería incluir el equipo con el que estaba trabajando, la zona en que estaba, y lo que estaba haciendo. Por ejemplo: “Sam tropezó mientras cargaba dos cajas. Se lo golpeó el hombro contra el suelo,” es mejor que, “Sam tropezó y cayó mientras cargaba cajas.” Cuanto más específico sea el informe, tanto mejor.

Paso 2 – Documentar reuniones con su empleador

Cree registros de sus citas con su empleador enviándole un email poco después de sus citas. En el email, revise los temas principales que discutieron y pida una respuesta. El propósito de esta comunicación es registrar el contenido de su conversación, y es posible que sea el único registro. Por lo tanto, mantener una actitud profesional obra en su mejor interés. Una manera buena de empezar el correo sería, “Este mensaje sirve para confirmar nuestra cita acerca de…” Tener un resumen de su cita por email es ventajoso porque es fácil de recuperar y lleva confirmación de su empleador, si Ud. recibe una respuesta.
