Biography

Ellen Deaver is trial lawyer and shareholder with Atwood Law, practicing in both the Lincoln and Omaha offices. She focuses on litigation and trial work in workers’ compensation matters, representing injured workers as well as select employers and insurance carriers the areas workers' compensation, personal injury and wrongful death. Over her 20+ year career, Ellen has defended approximately 1,200 cases on behalf of employers and insurance companies, and has served as plaintiff’s counsel for hundreds of injured workers. Having represented both injured workers and employers throughout her career, Ellen brings a unique perspective and a nuanced understanding of the legal, practical, and strategic issues that shape workers’ compensation cases.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law, Ellen is a member of the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys (NATA) and the Nebraska State Bar Association. She served on the Executive Committee of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Nebraska State Bar Association from 2019 to 2025, including a term as Chair.

Ellen serves as a mentor for the Dan Jewell Institute, a respected leadership program dedicated to developing future leaders within the workers’ compensation community. She is a frequent speaker on workers’ compensation issues and has maintained an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell for more than 14 years, reflecting the highest level of professional excellence and peer recognition.

Ellen is licensed in the state and federal courts in Nebraska as well as the United States Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. She has extensive experience at both the trial and appellate levels, including successfully representing clients before the Nebraska Supreme Court.
