According to officers with the Omaha Police Department, 5 people were injured in an accident on I-680. The incident reportedly occurred in the northbound lanes of the interstate around 11:45 p.m. on Nov. 28.
Officers reported that the driver of a 2005 Chevy Malibu apparently missed his exit at West Dodge Road in Omaha. He allegedly then attempted to drive across the median in order to reach it at highway speeds, despite the median being grassy. After allegedly losing control of his car, the driver then went across all of the traffic lanes of the highway before crashing into an exit sign.
The man reportedly had four passengers in his vehicle at the time of the accident. Emergency medical personnel had to transport all five to the hospital due to their injuries. The driver reportedly suffered major injuries, including a bleed on his brain and punctured lungs. He was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by responders. Law enforcement authorities are still investigating the case, but indicated that speed was a factor in it.
When people are injured in car accidents due to the negligence of a driver, the injured victims may be able to hold the driver liable by filing personal injury civil lawsuits against them. In this case, all four passengers might be able to sue the driver of the Chevy Malibu. In the event he succumbs to his injuries, the man’s estate may be named as the defendant to the lawsuit in his stead. Through such a lawsuit, plaintiffs may be able to recover damages designed to fairly compensate them for both their economic and noneconomic losses. People who have been injured in a wreck caused by another person may want the assistance of a personal injury attorney in this regard.
