One person was killed in a morning accident in Bellevue on Dec . 30. The fatal accident involved two vehicles and left at least one person injured. The incident resulted in a portion of the road closed during the police investigation.
According to police, the accident took place just before 7:15 a.m. when a Chevrolet Cobalt, driven by a 21-year-old Bellevue woman spun out of control at the intersection of 36th Street and Cedar Island Road. The vehicle slid across the center line and was hit broadside by a BMW driven by a 64-year-old woman. The passenger of the Chevrolet, a 44-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene. The driver, his daughter, who had reportedly been taking the man to work, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Nebraska Medicine for treatment and listed in serious condition. The BMW’s driver was transported to Midlands Hospital for observation.
It was unknown why the driver of the Chevrolet lost control of the vehicle. In many fatal car accidents, factors such as weather, road conditions, reckless or negligent driving or driving under the influence play a role. In this case, police have not yet issued any charges related to the crash.
Those who have been injured due to another’s negligent driving might consult with a personal injury lawyer to seek guidance about filing a personal injury claim. A lawyer might advise a victim about what types of compensation they might receive if they file a case and it is successful. Before filing the claim, the victim or the family of the victim might await the completion of the police report to see where liability lies.
