On Aug. 29, it was reported that a Nebraska woman suffered serious injuries after her vehicle rolled when she attempted to avoid an accident. She was driving on Interstate 29 when a ladder fell off of the truck in front of her.
She stated that swerved her vehicle to avoid the ladder, but she lost control, causing her SUV to roll. The force caused her to be ejected from the vehicle. Her body struck a power pole after being thrown 15 feet. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. Her two young children under the age of 6 and a third passenger did not suffer any major injuries. Witnesses reportedly carried them away from the wreck to safety. It appeared that the woman had her seat belt on, but it failed when the vehicle rolled. An officer reportedly told her after the fact that a penny had been stuck in it.
The driver of the truck that lost the ladder reportedly pulled over immediately following the accident. It was stated that he could potentially be charged for the accident as he had not secured the ladder to the truck.
When a motor vehicle accident occurs, it is often the result of negligence on behalf of another driver. If this is the case, that driver could potentially be held responsible in a civil action for any damages or injuries. An attorney may help the injured person gather the evidence, such as police reports and witness testimony, that demonstrated that the other driver was at fault. The compensation that the injured person may seek might include the costs of medical treatment, rehabilitation expenses and lost wages.
