Police officers with the Superior Police Department reported that an accident that occurred on Oct. 19 sent seven people to the hospital with injuries. According to authorities, the accident happened on the Webber Blacktop road on the south side of Superior around 12:30 p.m.
Reportedly, a man was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram south while hauling 15 head of cattle at the time of the accident. He allegedly suffered some sort of mechanical failure in his truck’s front passenger wheel, causing him to lose control of his truck and trailer. The man then allegedly crossed the center line, striking a Ford Expedition driven by a Kansas man head-on.
The Kansas man and his four daughters were all injured and transported to the hospital. The truck driver and his passenger were also injured and transported form the scene for treatment. Initially, all were taken to Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior by several ambulances and a private vehicle. The Expedition’s driver was later transferred to a hospital in Lincoln for treatment of serious head injuries. The road was closed for over five hours while law enforcement agencies investigated the scene and performed clean-up of accident debris.
When people are injured in car accidents due to the negligence of another driver, the driver may face civil liability through a personal injury lawsuit. Injured people may be able to recover damages for both the economic and noneconomic losses they suffered as a result of the accident. People may be able to recover property losses, medical expenses, time lost from work, pain and suffering and others. In a case like this one in which a mechanical failure is alleged, the driver may be found to be negligent in the event he or she was operating an unsafe vehicle on the road.
