Accident injures 6

A car accident on I-80 in Nebraska reportedly caused injuries to six people, one of whom had to be airlifted to a hospital nearby. The accident happened on the evening of Aug. 5. The driver of a silver car headed east allegedly became distracted and crossed a median into oncoming traffic. The vehicle was hit by a GMC Yukon near mile marker 389.

Two women on the silver car’s passenger side suffered severe injuries, and one was taken by air to Bryan West Campus. Four other people suffered minor injuries, and they were taken to a local hospital as well. All passengers in the involved vehicles were wearing seat belts, and all air bags reportedly deployed.

Police did not say what distracted the driver of the silver vehicle, but the accident remains under investigation. The accident caused westbound lanes in the vicinity to be closed for about an hour and a half following the collision. It is unclear if any charges will be filed.
